Around 60,000 Moroccan migrants, mostly young people and adults, entered the “Spanish territory” of Ceuta in recent days, swimming or walking, risking their lives in search of a better life in Europe. They did so knowing the danger of death, as tragically happened with the more than 85 lives of working-class people lost. To date, almost all of these migrants have been returned to Morocco by the Spanish Civil Guard and the murderous Spanish army, using tanks sent for this purpose by the "progressive" "socialist" government of Pedro Sánchez and his Sumar coalition.

This is not the first time this has happened in Ceuta or Melilla. Back in 2021, more than 10,000 migrants had entered these cities of "Spanish territory," but they were also forced back to Morocco through the cruel practice of "pushbacks," as these migrants are fleeing hunger, poverty, repression, etc. and knowing that they have no future in Morocco.
The situation in Ceuta is not an exception. The world imperialist system, in its rottenness and decay, is driving nearly 300 million human beings to barbarism as they wander the planet in search of work to feed their families, a place to live with dignity, etc.

The Spanish monarchy is the one that commands the Spanish imperialist state. Both the PSOE, PP and Vox are the whips it uses to plunder oppressed peoples and super-exploit the working class.
In response to the events in Ceuta, parties like Vox and its coalition have called for “militarizing the border” and “immediately returning migrants, without hesitation or second thought.” “We are talking about the safety of Spaniards, about the integrity of Spain. What must be done must be done.” The party leader, Santiago Abascal, was even more emphatic: “They must be expelled now! All of them!” he proclaimed. “By whatever means necessary. And if the government doesn't act, the Spanish people will have to do it alone.”

The ultra-reactionary Spanish monarchy, through the king, has stated that the State “must ensure its security and prevent these events (…) from happening again.”

Therefore, Pedro Sánchez and the PSOE-Sumar government say and do the same as the king, sending the army and the Civil Guard to deport the tens of thousands of migrants who arrived, and crowding into refugee-prison centers the few migrants they need to enter to harvest crops and do the worst jobs without any rights. Those who call themselves “progressive” and “democratic” subjugate the people they oppress through terror.

The fact is, the Bourbon monarchy is the one that controls the business in the Spanish State. To secure these business, it uses two whips: one from the “left” with the PSOE and another from the “right” with PP and Vox. That is why Sánchez sent the army and ordered the deportation of the migrants. And if PP or Vox were in government, it would also act under the monarchy's orders. The monarchy is not merely decorative, as they want us to believe. It can dissolve parliament, accept or reject governments, which it commands. It is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. And it treats Morocco the same way it treats the nationalities it oppresses on the Iberian Peninsula, such as Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia, etc. We have not forgotten that Ceuta and Melilla are cities seized by the Spanish State in Moroccan territory, just as we have not forgotten the 4,000 Basque pro-independence prisoners and the brutal crushing of the Catalan struggle for self-determination in 2017.

Nor have we forgotten that the king travelled for years to Latin America—as he did at UNASUR meetings—to directly oversee the investments of Spanish financial capital there, such as the privatizations of telecommunications and oil in Argentina, and in the other countries where they partnered with US imperialism to plunder those semi-colonial nations.

Sending the army to expel immigrants: Trump's dream

The Bourbons and the US imperialists are therefore partners in plunder, and use the same methods to treat the peoples they oppress and plunder, as well as the workers who come from their colonies and semi-colonies.
Trump and his ICE Gestapo murder and deport migrants, and he continues, alongside Netanyahu, bombing and murdering Palestinians in Gaza and Lebanon. Now, the fascist US Supreme Court has cancelled Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which temporarily allowed 350,000 Haitian and 6,000 Syrian migrants to work and live in the US. With this ruling, Haitian and Syrian migrants can be deported to their countries of origin at any time. However, there is a difference between the massive export of migrants carried out by the Spanish State today and what Trump has been doing in the US: Sánchez sent both the Civil Guard and the army, while Trump could only send his ICE Gestapo. He cannot yet bring out the National Guard or the armed forces to do it, at the risk of a widespread uprising of the US working class, but he would very much like to.

The workers of the Spanish State must raise “open borders!” as their first demand and take up the fight for them and for full rights for all Moroccan and migrant workers, as well as the recognition of the right to self-determination for all oppressed workers on the Iberian Peninsula. Any worker fighting for the independence of the Basque, Catalan, Galician, etc., peoples will not be able to free themselves from the yoke of the Spanish monarchy if they do not embrace the struggle for the full rights of Moroccan workers... A job, a dignified life, legal status, and rights for all! In imperialist countries: The enemy is within! It is a fundamental task of the working class in these countries to wage the struggle against their own imperialism.
This would weld the unity of the working class throughout the Spanish State and the colonies it oppresses, and the workers' movement would be much stronger in achieving jobs for all through the redistribution of hours and a wage equal to the cost of the basic family basket. Today, workers in the Spanish state are paying the price with unemployment, insufficient wages, and the erosion of hard-won gains due to the policies of their leadership, which have divided them and refused to support the struggle of migrant workers for full rights, equal pay for equal work, all under collective bargaining agreements with wages that cover the cost of the basic family basket, and decent jobs for all.
Let the unions and working-class organizations affiliate migrants and refugees as honorary members, so they can fight alongside their class brothers and sisters in Europe and around the world!
However, all the union leaderships are intentionally looking the other way. The union bureaucracy of the UGT and CCOO refuses to take up the struggle of migrants. The so-called "militant unions" have also failed to offer full membership to any worker who arrived in Ceuta, nor took any action on their behalf. Out with the union bureaucracy from the workers' organizations!

Out with Spanish imperialism from Morocco!

Morocco and the whole North Africa is the backyard of European imperialist powers. They plunder enormous riches from there, such as the gas from Algeria and Morocco in the case of the Spain state and France, or from Libya in the case of Italy. There are also other vast mineral riches, such as Moroccan phosphorus used for fertilizers in European fields. Huge industries, such as French automakers and Airbus, among others, along with Spanish banks, have set up maquiladoras (sweatshops) in Morocco with slave workers who live in severe live-in sweatshopconditions.
If tens of thousands of workers from these countries risked everything to desperately reach Ceuta, it is because they have no way to feed their families due to the regime of super-exploitation and plunder of resources carried out by imperialism with its lackey, the Moroccan king.

There, even the hospitals can no longer function to care for pregnant women, who die in childbirth as in the 19th century. With 37% unemployment, young people see no future there.
The migrant workers who arrived in Ceuta are the true "creditors," "owners," and "proprietors," along with the European working class, of all the wealth stolen from them by transnational corporations and imperialist bankers in Europe. They are the foreign thieves! Imperialism must be expelled from Morocco, all its assets seized, and the super-exploitation ended by imposing a redistribution of working hours to ensure decent work for all with a wage equal to the cost of the basic family basket! To achieve this, it is necessary to confront and overthrow the Moroccan monarchy, a servant of the Bourbons and a junior partner in the business of plunder and super-exploitation.

Only a unified working class can solve the unprecedented hardships on both sides of the Mediterranean.

To liberate Morocco from the imperialist yoke, the Moroccan working class must fight in unity with the entire working class of the Spanish State, as we stated above. Capital has no borders to exploit workers, so neither do we to fight back. It is one and the same working class, transcending borders. We workers have no homeland, only chains to break! Let the unions of the Spanish State affiliate Moroccan workers! Papers for all and free movement! Decent work for all with an extra shift in all factories and a reduction in the working day, with a salary equal to the cost of the basic family basket!
