October 7th, 2026: 3 years of a war of extermination and the deepening of genocide by Zionism and the US imperialist against the Palestinian people
Statement by Giovanni, of Avanzata Proletaria (Italy)
“Dockworkers—led by their vanguard in Genoa—have called for a new strike on October 30 to bring the ports to a standstill and cut off supplies to the Zionist regime
This is the way to stop the genocide! All trade unions must take up this call! We must move toward an international general strike!”
Good evening, everyone. Greetings to all the comrades present for this international event. In recent days, we have witnessed major struggles by the working class and the youth here on our continent—in Europe—including in France, the Spanish State, Belgium, and Italy. Students, the unemployed, and workers are taking to the streets and occupying public squares; these are people for whom imperialist governments have done nothing but strip away hard-won gains from —slashing budgets for public transport, education, and housing—while simultaneously granting the police (as seen in France) the power to openly repress and even kill protesters.
Young people in France and Spanish State—as well as in Germany last year, where they took to the streets and occupied public squares to oppose the German center-right’s plan to reintroduce mandatory military service—have faced sudden and serious threats to their ability to even envision to build their own future and a different kind of society. The situation for Italian youth—and, indeed, for the Italian proletariat and the working masses in general—has deteriorated slowly but steadily over the last few decades. This long-term decline in the living and working conditions of the working class and the poor has triggered waves of struggle, outbursts, and street protests; yet, these have invariably been steered into the trap of electoral politics or channeled into the negotiation of regressive labor agreements.
A distinctive feature of current movements is that they have embraced the Palestinian cause as their own. There is no mobilization in Spanish State, France, Belgium, or Italy that does not feature the Palestinian flag and stand against the genocide being perpetrated by Zionism under U.S. leadership. They have adopted this banner of struggle—a symbol of anti-imperialism and the liberation of Palestine—as their own, viewing it as part of the same fight against a common enemy: their own imperialist governments, which have supported the Zionist-led massacre.
Although the Italian working class is not currently at the same level of development as that seen in some other European countries, the pro-Palestinian movement has served as a vanguard—blocking ports and organizing general strikes. Through a general strike held on October 3rd of last year, they even compelled the trade union bureaucracy of the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) to join the strike actions, take to the streets, and bring everything to a standstill—despite the leadership’s initial reluctance to do so.
Now, port workers—led by their vanguard in Genoa—have called for another strike on October 30th to paralyze the ports and cut off the supply chain for Zionism.
This is the way to stop the genocide! All trade unions must heed this call! We must move toward an international general strike!
