Iran- December 2018
17/12/2018 – CALL FROM THE PAPER THE TRUTH OF THE OPPRESSED
Free the 41 workers on strike of Ahwaz Steel Industry Co. of Iran!
After more than a month of strike of Iran steel workers, the regime of the Ayatollahs and the Iranian theocracy have put into jail 41 comrades.
These comrades, as all the workers sectors in struggle in Iran -who are also suffering persecution of the counterrevolutionary theocracy of Khamenei, Rouhani and their gangs- are allies of the Syrian resistance and all the Syrian revolution detainees, as they confront one of their executioners and main supporter of Al Assad… that fascist who keeps tens of thousands under torture in his prisons, and today those detainees have rebelled to confront the death sentence like the prisoners of Hama.
List of the 41 striking steel workers arrested:

On the strike of the iranian working class that comes out to fight
The metalworkers and the sugar cane workers are at the vanguard of the struggle against the murderers of the syrian masses
The steel workers of the company Iran National Steel Industry Group (INSIG) in Ahwaz, Juzestan governorate, have been on strike for more than 40 days, staging demonstrations in which they claim the payment of the arrears that are owed for months. They also demand that the company, which was privatized in October last year, goes back to be state-owned. For that same demand, the workers have made strikes and demonstrations throughout 2017. Because of that, in March this year the wages were paid, but only to some workers and in some cases, only a part of it. After that, they were not paid anymore. They haven’t collected their wages for months. Besides, they owe them the social security, for which they are not getting medical attention.
Besides these demands, the workers also demand for the factory to work at full capacity, as there is emptying and sale of equipment and machinery.
On December 17th and 18th, in the middle of the demonstrations, 40 workers of Ahwaz Steel were arrested in raids to their homes, during which the forces of the “Iranian Islamic Republic” bit the steel workers in front of their families and they took away their personal belongings and cell phones.
In the morning of December 19th, police and security guards occupied parts of Ahwaz region to prevent a meeting of the striking steel workers of the factory Iran National Steel Industry Group (INSIG). However, a great number of brave workers continued the protest and demanded their imprisoned comrades to be released. Their war cries are “Down with the oppressors, long live the workers!”, “Threats and jail won’t stop our protests!”, “No to slavery!”, “Let’s recover our rights!”, “Exploitation and unemployment: the logic of the capitalist system”, “The workers prefer to die before falling to a life without dignity”.
In the very governorate of Juzestan, in the city of Shush, there’s also a strike underway. It is the strike of the sugar cane of Haft Tappeh workers, who are also demanding for arrears and against the corruption of the board.
On November 18th there was a demonstration of 4,000 workers of Haft Tappeh which was attacked by the repressive forces. 18 union leaders were arrested. The next day, thousands of steel workers of Ahwaz stood in solidarity with the sugar cane workers, marching to the governor’s office, demanding the release of the activists. Also, students from several universities marched to support the workers in struggle. Thus, solidarity bonds between the workers of different sectors are beginning to be forged.
14 activists were released, but others remain in prison. Esmail Bakhshi, one of the most well-known leaders of the sugar cane workers strike is under house arrest.
Furthermore, there are strikes in the oil refinery of Abadan, in the Project Ahwaz Metro, and also of the municipal workers of Hamidiyeh. In the next few days, the supermarket workers, grouped in the food industry union, are coming out to the strike, among other strikes that are underway.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the “supreme leader”, says the strikes are “led by foreign enemies that are trying to destroy the economy”. But the workers respond describing Iran as “The house of thieves, unique in the world” and insist that “Our enemy is here – they lie when they say it is the USA”.
