South Africa - August 15th, 2022
10 years of the Marikana massacre and we keep on fighting for justice:
We don’t forget, we don’t forgive, we don’t reconciliate with the murderers of the working class!
On August 16 we pay tribute to the 34 miners of Marikana, who were slaughtered 10 years ago by the transnational companies Anglo American (Amplats) and London Mining Company (Lonmin), by the hand of their hitmen of the police, the treacherous Stalinist trade union bureaucracy of COSATU and its lackeys of the government of the ANC. All of them are responsible for this massacre of the Marikana miners who were on strike for 90 days demanding a decent wage of 12,500 rands.
The Marikana miners in their struggle concentrated the demands and struggle of the whole workers movement in South Africa and the region, confronting the transnational companies that plunder our wealth and their lackey governments to conquer decent wage and work for all.
10 years after the terrible massacre of Marikana, which put the entire working class in the world in grief, we still haven’t got justice for our martyrs. Even if today the South African state is paying compensations to the relatives of the murdered miners, all the murderers are still free. Anglo American keeps on plundering the nation. Its manager at that time, Cyril Ramaphosa, who commanded the massacre, is the current president of South Africa.
After 10 years NOTHING has changed for the workers of South Africa, Zimbabwe and the entire region of the south of the continent. Just the contrary, our living conditions have worsened. The workers are still without a decent wage. We suffer of a rising inflation, high unemployment and above all they want to make us believe the cause of the miserable conditions we are in, is because our poor starving brothers that come from other countries to work to be able to feed their families, bearing the worst exploitation. But the hardships we suffer are brought by the transnational companies, the IMF, either local managers, the ANC government supported by the SACP and COSATU. It is transnational companies, imperialism, the ones that plunder our resources and steal all our wealth, leaving us in misery!
They are the ones that close us the entrance of Europe or slaughter us as when we run away from our decimated countries, due to hunger, persecution, trying to get to Europe. This is what happened last June in Melilla, where the Moroccan police did the dirty work of the Borbons and, together with the Spanish State police, crushed merciless the migrant workers that reached its shores. The murderers of Marikana yesterday are the same killers of Melilla today.
That’s why, on this 10th anniversary of the Marikana massacre, we say: Our migrant brothers that are killed when they try to get to Europe are the 35th cross right next to the ones of the Marikana martyrs!
On this August 16, we stand with the widows of the martyrs and the miners that keep on fighting for JUSTICE. We don’t forget, we don’t forgive, we don’t reconciliate with our enemies, the murderers of Marikana!
The demand of a decent wage of 12,500 rands and work for all for which the Marikana miners fought is not yet achieved. This should be our war cry, as when we conquer it, we would have made justice for the 34 martyrs of Marikana who gave their lives for it.
Therefore, the best tribute to our martyrs of Marikana is to defeat the transnational companies that plunder our wealth, end with misery, hunger, unemployment. For this we must take the resolution of our problems in our own hands. Out with the Stalinist treacherous union bureaucracy that support the ANC government! Let’s organize unemployment committees, factory committees and committees of the millions of Zimbabwean migrant workers and from the entire region and let’s centralize together with the students movement.
Let’s set up self-defense committees of the workers organizations in each neighbourhood and town to defend ourselves from the murderous police and xenophobic groups that attack our migrant brothers.
Expropriate without compensation and place under workers control the transnational companies, the Anglo American, the mines, the land and the banks and the companies of these black new rich! Let’s advance to the general strike to confront the transnational companies and their government!
Out with imperialism that plunder our nations! Out with the IMF! Out with the government of the ANC of Ramaphosa, the murderer of Marikana!
The same transnational companies we confront in South Africa are the ones which plunder Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Angola… They are the ones that take the workers there to unprecedented hardships and a brutal unemployment, which makes them migrate to South Africa to be able to work. In every country we fight against the same enemy. One single struggle in the whole southern Africa against the transnational companies that plunder our continent and their lackey governments of black millionaire bourgeois in a sea of black slaves!
