Bolivia - February 28, 2024
Amidst the brutal attack of the MAS government that guarantees the payment of the foreign debt to the IMF, while the workers and the people suffer ferocious inflation and high cost of living...
The workers, students and the exploited people of Oruro
are forcing with the struggle in the streets a reversal
to the fare hikes in public transport
On February 27, the massive mobilization called by the Central Obrera Departamental (Departmental Workers' Central) (COD) of Oruro against the fare hike in public transport took place, after days of strong confrontations between university students of the UTO (Technical University of Oruro), neighborhood councils and workers against the transport bosses who wanted to impose the fare hike, a question that would immediately increase the cost of the family basket.
People in their thousands mobilized through the streets of Oruro, led by miners, UTO students, neighborhood councils and the people poor, who came together in a mass meeting to denounce the agreement signed behind closed doors by the government, the mayor, some leaders and the public transport bosses to impose the fare increase.
Thanks to this magnificent struggle action by the masses, which were tending to radicalize in the face of the attack by the transport bosses and the MAS government that are throwing the crisis on the poor people, the offensive to raise the public transport fares was temporarily stopped.
For fear the struggle of the exploited could be sharpened, on February 28 the Court of Justice had to announce the annulment of the fare hikes and the initial fare was returned to the original value, accepting a document of "popular action" which was presented.
Long live the struggle of the Oruro workers, students and people poor!
Now, let's deepen the fight for a free and quality bus ticket for schoolchildren, university students and workers, paid by the state!
Out with the IMF! Progressive taxes on the big profits of the bosses! For a real nationalization without compensation and under workers' control of the hydrocarbons! For the nationalization without compensation and under workers' control of the 93% of the mines, which belong to the private and “cooperativist” bosses!
Let the capitalists pay for the crisis!
Enough of exploitation and rising cost of living! For a general wage increase indexed to inflation so that the workers, the poor people, the drivers exploited by the bosses who own public transport, can live in dignity with their families!
Enough of the monopolization of transport! For the nationalization of public transport without compensation, under workers' control!
The people poor have taken to the streets.... We do not belong to any faction of the MAS bourgeoisie. Neither of Morales who for 14 years handed over the minerals and gas to the transnationals and guaranteed the land to the fascist Media Luna, nor of Arce who now, in continuity, does the same, handing over the mining resources to imperialism, while they throw the rising cost of living to the poor people.
Enough is enough!
For a COB (Bolivian Workers Central Union) and COD independent of the bosses' parties to unify the ranks of the employed and unemployed workers!
Out with the Huarachi bureaucracy from the COB!
Congress now of rank and file delegates of the employed and unemployed workers, poor peasants and militant students!
Liga Socialista de los Trabajadores Internacionalistas (LSTI) of Bolivia
