Statement by the Palestinian Youth of Italy in support of the Jenin resistance
Jenin under siege
The Resistance challenges Zionist occupation
and the Palestinian Authority
In recent days, the heart of the Palestinian resistance in Jenin has been subjected to brutal repression by the Palestinian National Authority (PA), a political apparatus that, far from representing the interests of the Palestinian people, acts as executor of the plans of the Zionist occupier and as its additional armed wing in the West Bank with the sole objective of repressing popular resistance.
On 5 December, Palestinian Authority forces, armed and supported by USA and "Israel", launched a vast operation against resistance fighters in the Jenin countryside, culminating in the killing of Yazid Ja'ayseh, commander of the Jenin Brigade, and the very young Rebhi al-Shalabi (aged 19) and Mohammad al-Amer (aged 13). The operation also sparked a massive wave of protests by the local population. Thousands of people from all over Jenin flocked to the camp to demonstrate against the PA aggression, while solidarity demonstrations were held in the towns of Tulkarm, Qabatiya and Tubas.
During the operation, the PA imposed a total siege on the Jenin refugee camp, blocking all access and exit routes. The siege resulted in power and water outages, leaving residents in an extremely difficult situation. Ambulances were hampered, preventing both the rescue of the wounded and their evacuation, thus aggravating the already serious humanitarian crisis. In addition, PA forces forcibly occupied several houses, turning them into military posts and forcing residents to abandon their homes.
And while the Jenin resistance vows not to surrender, the Zionist occupation continues to escalate its campaign of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. Recent drone attacks in the town of Tulkarm resulted in the death of four Palestinians, while in the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, an "Israeli" strike killed two people, including an 80-year-old woman.
Zionist armored vehicles also stormed the town Bir al-Basha, south of Jenin. Starting from October 7, 2023, the total number of martyrs of Zionist repression in the West Bank exceeds 820 Palestinians.
The connivance between the Palestinian Authority and “Israel” has always been evident. The United States, through the so-called “Fenzel Plan”, helped the Palestinian Authority regain military control of areas such as Jenin and Nablus, providing logistical, financial and military assistance.
Despite protests from some officials, President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered any internal resistance to be crushed, threatening to fire those who do not obey. It is clear that this operation serves exclusively the interests of the Zionist occupier, whose aim is to disarm and destroy any form of organized resistance.
On the political level, the PA has failed to offer a real perspective of liberation. For thirty years it has implemented a sterile political agenda, lacking tangible results, while "Israeli" colonization has intensified and the project of annexation of the West Bank advances inexorably. The actions of the PA in Jenin only demonstrate its desperation to maintain the favour of its international legitimizers, even at the cost of betraying its own people.
The Palestinian resistance, embodied by groups such as the Jenin Brigade, continues to fight for self-determination, opposing both the Zionist occupation and the puppet regime of the Palestinian Authority. The determination of these fighters and the Palestinian people is a cry for justice that cannot be stifled.
We strongly condemn not only the Palestinian Authority, but also its international legitimizers, including those governments and organizations in Italy that continue to interact with this compromised regime, presenting it as a legitimate interlocutor. Any political, economic or diplomatic support for the PA represents a betrayal of the aspirations of the Palestinian people and an act of complicity with the “Israeli” occupation. The Palestinian people need the active and concrete solidarity of the international community, not of those who seek to maintain the status quo. The resistance will live, fight and inspire until the day Palestine is free, from the river to the sea.
