International Event
Revolutionary Marxism and War
Greetings from the Japan Revolutionary Communist League - Revolutionary Marxist Fraction (JRCL-RMF)
Dear comrades in the FLTI-CI,
We the JRCL-RMF are sending our greeting of solidarity to all the participants in the international event on November 2nd.
We learned that this international event will be centred on the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Palestine. It is aimed to think over what will be brought about to the world by these wars and their results and to ascertain what the world working class should do now. We entirely agree on the point of this conference held on the topic ‘Revolutionary Marxism and War’. We believe that such efforts will be a spark of hope for people who are living days of real hell in Ukraine and Palestine. We are also confident that, whereas the present world is covered with darkness, this will show the world’s working people where to go forward.
In the first place, it seems to us that Ukrainian people are now pressed to make a very tough decision. This is because the supports from the US and European countries are going to decline, while the voices for ‘immediate ceasefire with status quo’ are now heard everywhere in the world. With the US Presidential Elections are just around the corner, Donald Trump is boasting that he has been on intimate terms with Putin for these four years and openly saying ‘Ukraine should never have let that war start. The war’s a loser’. If Trump wins, he will no sooner cut off the support. Even if Kamala Harris wins, the US supports will also be decreasing due to Republicans’ obstinate opposition. First of all, the global strategy of the Democrats aims to prevent China from overtaking the US and, for that purpose, just to weaken Russia. Therefore Biden and Harris will surely continue their policy, which means for Russia not to win and at the same time for Ukraine not to win either. The Democratic administration would only grant limited aid, which makes Ukrainian soldiers fight Russian forces with their hands bound behinds their back, so to speak.
In the middle of such a situation, Ukrainian people will have to decide either pining their hopes in another military operation once again in the coming spring in order to regain the four regions and Crimea whose annexation were declared by Putin, or otherwise retreating for now to avoid more combat fatalities and defend the Ukrainian nation with the aim of someday liberating their brothers and sisters from the Russian occupation. In either case, it would be a tough and agonizing decision.
We must think over what to do in this situation. We cannot tell Ukrainian people which road they should take. The decision can be made, we believe, only by Ukrainian people themselves who are in the middle of sufferings. We think that the reason why Ukrainians have been driven into this adversity is that working people in the rest of the world have not given a helping hand to them. Reflecting deep on this, the world’s working people must raise their voices in each of their places, saying ‘Crush the Putin-led war of aggression against Ukraine!’ and to create antiwar movements more massively and powerfully than ever.
We refer here to the fact that in Ukraine there are leftists who are promoting assiduous, hard struggles under the banner ‘People’s peace, not imperial peace’. They are not only combating with Russia’s invading army but also fighting in opposition to the Zelensky-led government, which is trying to find the way of survival of the Ukrainian state in its bourgeois reconstruction through the invitation of foreign capital. We believe we must fight wholeheartedly in solidarity with those fighting people.
But we hear some people saying: ‘The war in Ukraine is Putin’s counterattack against Nato’s eastward expansion. Those who are shouting for “support to Ukraine” neglect this fact.’ However, we must say in response: ‘That would be so from Putin’s standpoint. But those who say this neglect a decisive point. During the Stalinist era of the former Soviet Union, a terrible and harsh rule of autocracy was imposed on the working people and the oppressed nations.’ It is impossible to discuss the future of Ukrainian people’s fight from the viewpoint of political bargaining among rulers and of the prospect of its development. We Marxists must think over what we should do now by thoroughly basing ourselves on the side of the oppressed, on the standpoint of the working class.
Putin and other Siliviks, dominating today’s Russian empire, are the mean bastards who have risen to become the new rulers of the Russian people by usurping the state property of the Soviet Union. The way they rule the people is of the kind that totally follows the way taken in the Stalinist Soviet Union. That is why Ukrainian people are resisting in order to prevent the nation from being absorbed into the Russian empire.
The working class - even though they are divided by national borders by the ruling class- are living anywhere as ‘wage slaves’ at the bottom of capitalist society, so that they can never seek for some improvements in their slavish conditions by the sacrifice of their brothers and sisters in other countries. Even if some economic demands unite workers, it will not shake the ruling class. The ruling class will truly be shaken when workers unite as a class, and the quality of their unity is demonstrated by their attitudes towards their brothers and sisters separated from them by national borders. Those who forsake Ukrainian people and Palestinian people would end up closing by themselves the road for the self-liberation of the proletariat.
In today’s world, the danger of the outbreak of a Third World War is growing daily. A new situation has arisen in Ukraine where an army of North Korea has entered this war of aggression on the Russian side. Incapable of mobilizing young people in his own country, Putin has decided to offer North Korea with the technology of developing nuclear weapons and missiles, and in exchange for this, to entreat Kim Jong Un to send North Korean soldiers. Without doubt, North Korea’s entry into the war will aggravate the present crisis of war in the world drastically. If Putin should be successful in forcing Ukraine into defeat, he would certainly attempt to carry out his wicked intentions to commit aggression against Moldova and Georgia, against the three Baltic countries, and further against the former Soviet’s satellite states.
In East Asia today, military rivalry is intensifying every minute between China and the US-Japan-South Korea over Taiwan and the South China Sea; the Korean Peninsula has already been plunged into a hair-trigger situation. North Korea, with the support of Russia, has risen to be a nuclear state and at the same time a state that possesses armed forces with the actual experience of warfare. There is now the possibility that North Korea could spark off a new war in East Asia.
And finally, in the Middle East, the Netanyahu regime of Israel, which is taking advantage of the head-on clash between the US and China-Russia, is furiously rushing, backed by US imperialism, to genocide against Palestinians in Gasa to liquidate the Palestinian nation. By so doing, it is aiming to clinch this “war between nations entangled with religious antagonism” against Arabs that has lasted for more than 70 years since the founding of Israel in 1949. This is why the atrocities of the Zionists are escalating further into conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah, which are now likely to be a total war.
Amid these cruel wars and clashes of state egoism in the continent of Eurasia, East Asia and in the Middle East, the danger of the outbreak of a world war is growing. The downfall of the US empire as the “sole superpower” will deepen divisions in US society more and more and spur China’s and Russia’s challenges against the US. And now the danger of a Third World War is impending.
There is nothing other than the struggle of workers and the toiling masses in the world that can stop this. And there is none other than the revolutionary vanguard, which has been struggling to confront imperialism and Stalinism, that can lead this struggle.
We’ve learned from Comrade Munzer’s mail that your International Event now about to start is intended as one that counter the “Havana Forum”, made up of all the currents of renegades of Trotskyism, some Stalinist sectors, together with currents that accompany them including Darya Mitina, Putin’s agent.
The naked ambition of the Russian empire which reminds us of the former Stalinist Soviet Union, the rise of the neo-Stalinist state of China which is touting “market socialism”, remnants of Stalinist parties that still remain in many countries, which have converted into parties of “modified capitalism”, thus continuing to spew out poisons to the working class… Stalinism has in no sense turned into a thing of the past. This is why we think this Event to be held in opposition to the “Havana Forum” has a great significance.
In our country Japan, a vassal state of US imperialism, every single communication tool, as well as the Internet, is under close surveillance by the intelligence agencies of both the US and Japan. And so, we have no choice but to send you a message like this. Please forgive us for that.
We wish every success in your conference from the bottom of our heart. Let us fight together in solidarity till the day when the working class wins the whole world! |
