Letter from the Social Movement that gathers Ukrainian unions and workers organizations in the front against Putin

Revolutionary greetings, comrades!

We are following the events in Syria with great interest, as we see them as a natural outcome of the resistance to the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad. For us as Ukrainians, the overthrow of the openly pro-Putin regime brings closer the isolation of imperialist Russia, so we can only welcome the victory of the rebels. At the same time, we believe that the future of Syria depends both on the determination of the freedom-loving Syrian people and on the readiness of international imperialists to intervene in the situation. Thank you for your analysis, which allows us to better navigate the situation and understand the dynamics of anti-imperialist resistance around the world.

We also confirm that we have received your previous letter with questions about the situation in Ukraine. We need more time to familiarize ourselves with the statements. However, we note that the situation here is very volatile, so it is difficult to draw unambiguous conclusions. We outlined the most significant absurdities in Ukrainian society in the resolution of the SR conference in October 2024 (https://rev.org.ua/resolution-the-path-to-victory-and-the-tasks-of-the-ukrainian-left/). As for the role of the working class, it is still too weak to claim leadership of the national liberation struggle. But the undeniable fact is that the labor movement is becoming stronger, as more and more workers become soldiers and go to the front. In our opinion, we should expect a change in political dynamics and an intensification of class conflicts after the end of the hot phase of hostilities. As for businesses that want to benefit from the exploitation of Ukraine and its natural resources, this phenomenon is also not yet sufficiently pronounced: no rational capitalist will invest in a war-torn state.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to you for following all the significant trends in the international left movement, as well as for taking a position in support of Ukraine. This helps to cleanse the world left movement of pseudo-left pro-Putin elements, makes the fate of the Ukrainian people easier, and gives us confidence in the future.
