The Iranian theocratic dictatorship that starves the people, represses those who fight, tortures and condemns them to death like Alipour and thousands of fighters, has just executed activist Mostafa Salimi.
Killer Ayatollahs! The Government of the Kurdish Provinces of Iraq is Responsible!
Freedom for all Iranian political prisoners!
We reproduce below a statement from Iranian organizations condemning the execution of Mostafa Salimi, an Iranian activist who spent his last 17 years in prison and had escaped to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. The Kurdish local government of Iraq intercepted him and turned him over to the Iranian regime knowing that he was going to be executed, so taking joint responsibility for this execution. Murderous Iranian Regime! It is slaughtering the Syrian masses and its prisoners by letting them die of coronavirus or executing them.

RE: The execution of the Iranian political prisoner Mr. Mostafa Salimi
We are writing to you to denounce the extradition of Mr. Mostafa Salimi, an Iranian political prisoner, by the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG) to the authorities of the Islamic regime, knowing full well that he was going to be executed. Mr. Salimi was hanged by the Islamic regime in Iran on April 11, 2020, shortly after being arrested and turned over to the Islamic regime in Iran by the KRG. The KRG action goes against all human rights and UN conventions and they are responsible for this heinous action of crimes against humanity.
Furthermore, by extraditing Mr. Salimi, a political prisoner, the KRG has knowingly acted against the non-refoulement obligation, a part of international law stating that “no one should be returned to a country where they would face torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and other irreparable harm”. The GRK was well aware that Mr. Salimi was in danger of being tortured and executed when he collaborated with the Islamic regime in Iran, and is therefore responsible for his execution and will be held accountab
This is why Mr. Salimi, an Iranian political prisoner, was in Iraq: Following the coronavirus outbreak in prisons across Iran, thousands of prisoners were kept in the direst conditions, at the risk of getting the virus.
Dozens of prisoners have lost their lives due to the coronavirus. Prisoners and their families alike have repeatedly expressed concern about the health of prisoners, who constantly require to be protected from the virus and demand a temporary release in order to protect their lives against the risk of getting the coronavirus.
The Islamic regime has denied these prisoners their basic human rights, by continuously refusing to protect their life, health and well-being. Hundreds of prisoners have got coronavirus, while being left in the most appalling condition, of poor hygiene, without medical attention at all. Prisoners have recently protested horrendous conditions in different prisons in Iran and demanded their right to live and be protected since the first coronavirus infections occurred. During these protests, the security forces attacked the prisoners and killed more than 50 of them. In order to save their lives, some prisoners had no choice but to escape from their prisons. Mostafa Salimi was one of those prisoners, who escaped, along with dozens of other prisoners. Salimi fled to Iraqi Kurdistan on March 27 and declared to the KRG authorities that he would be executed by the Islamic regime in case of expulsion back to Iran. Despite his statement and despite the fact that the KRG was fully aware that he would be executed, they ignored Mr. Salimi's
Salimi's family was called to visit him the day before his execution. Salimi told her family that he had been detained by the KRG security forces (Asayesh) on the Iraq-Iran border (Sayranband and Baneh) and was handed over to the Islamic regime security forces in Iran. He was hanged on April 11, 2020 in a prison in the city of Saqqez in Iran.
Mostafa Salimi, 53, was a political activist who had been arrested in 2003 and sentenced to 15 years in prison and execution on the charge of "Carrying out a war against God" (Moharebeh). He spent 17 years in prison.
The Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq is responsible for the death of Mostafa Salimi and will be held accountable for his death.
