The Syriza- a “left” mask of the imperialist Troika- keeps showing his true nature by confining refugees to concentration camps. He is applying eviction plans in Idomeni, Pireous Port and every place where the refugees are gathered (waiting for crossing the borders still closed) to put them behind razor wires and military guard. The weapons used by Tsipras and his people to fulfil such plan are false promises of papers, welfare, and launch threat, and police harassment, even detention to those who are solidarians with refugees. As the detention of 45 volunteers who arrived from different parts of the world during the latest days. They are determined to have all the refugees behind razor wires ready to be deported to Turkey.
These concentration camps are spread all across Greece. Syriza says that such places have all the conditions to live guaranteed. But the refugees living in Katsika camp show the contrary. Not only Katsika but all the camps are denounced by refugees for the inhuman living conditions. The refugees who have seen or lived in them affirm that to live inside those camps is worse than to be in Idomeni or Pireous Port.
In the case of Katsika, 1000 refugees live in tents -for many people- on the pavement. There are no mats or beds. They have to sleep on that bare floor. For those 1000 people, there are only 20 toilets and 12 showers, the perfect breeding ground for sickness due to the filth, bacteria, and etcetera. The food is either rotten or spoiled or is uneatable. There is medical attention every so often and provides only some painkiller.
Moreover Katsika, as the vast majority of the camps, is located in a military base far away from urban areas, in the midst of trees, and mountains. Whenever it rains that region is easier to flood, especially the patio that then is invaded by snakes, scorpions, etc.
Today, 6 buses with “new residents” reached Katsika gates. Refugees denied getting off the busses. They denounce that since 2 days, the army is taking them from one place to another promising they will be a better place but every camp is similar or even worse than the other.
Dozens of refugees from inside Katsika camp go out towards the route. There, the Egnatia avenue, they establish a picket blockading the route totally. Their demand: “We can no longer live in these concentration camps, they treat us worse than animals; they are killing us softly!”
“We ask for the solidarity of the Greek people. Sorry for blockading your routes, but if we don´t shout, nobody listens to us. We have put on risk our and children lives in a trip by sea to reach Europe. We believed we reach a place to be safe. We left our countries due to war. But we find ourselves in a situation where we don’t have where to sleep, no water, no toilets, no food, not even the possibility to work and have our lives. We don`t deserve it. We only seek a place to live because we can’t in our countries. We want you to know this because We believe that if you know it, you will help us. I know it is not correct to blockade your routes, but id we see a need we will allow you to cross (the picket). We don`t want to bother you, only you to know what we are suffering and you to help us”.
The refugees in the buses were ready to get off to unify the protest taking their tents, blankets, sleeping bags to establish a camp there and blockade the route till get decent housing, when the Greek army realized of it decided to start the buses and take the refugees to Tesalonika.
Later, the Syriza police appeared in Egnatia route blocked by the refugees of Katsika camp. Some independent media and solidarian volunteers came too. The Police evicted the blockade by beating, pushing and shoving everybody. 27 people were arrested and some hours later released thanks to a demo in solidarity that was carried to the police station where the refugees and solidarians were detained.
Meanwhile, independent volunteers and solidarians arrived in Greece from different parts of Europe and world are been chased and arrested only because of giving refugees their solidarity. It is an attack of Syriza and the entire EU against the refugees getting ready to superior “austerity measures”. But the refugees are already responding in revolt.
Where are the worker organizations in solidarity?
Where are the organizations that claim to be socialist, left or revolutionary?
Where are the fighting currents and organizations?
We need a unified struggle against the same common enemy! The Spanish workers and youth have understood it and take the streets in Madrid and Barcelona against the EU in solidarity with the refugees; they return as Indignados to Puerta del Sol square. The French youth fight the French V Republic and his austerity measures applied after the brutal eviction in Calais against the refugees.
Let`s set a coordination and carry out an European struggle against the imperialist Maastrich that comes for all!
