Zimbabwe - July 31st, 2020
The demonstrations on July 31 were banned by the military dictatorship
The total lockdown and the suppression of the freedom of speech and democratic rights continue
July 31 was the day called for demonstrations to protest against corruption. Those demonstrations were called by small opposition bourgeois parties to denounce corruption of the government and members of ZANU PF.
The MDC and union leaders that collaborate with them such as the leadership of ZCTU endorsed the call. So did other groups such as the Communist Party, claiming it was not enough but it was a first step to come out to fight against the government.
The demonstration finally did not take place. The ones that had called to the demonstration were arrested. The government declared the demonstration illegal since it violates the lockdown.
Zimbabwe has been in lockdown since April due to coronavirus. The government since has clamped down and repressed people who go out on the streets. It has evicted vendors and people looking for temporary jobs to survive. Money is not enough. Prices are rising. And the government suppresses all types of protests. There is no freedom of expression anymore.
Zimbabwe is a military dictatorship in all its way. Cities are militarized and people are being chased away from the streets. If someone is on the street and is not due justified the reason, he or she will be imprisoned right at once.
To defend basic democratic rights and freedom of speech, the military dictatorship must be taken down. This can only be made with workers’ struggle.
Down with the dictatorship!
Out with the IMF!
National Assembly of Zimbabwe free and sovereign!
Decent wages for all!
Committee of public health under the control of the trade unions andmass' organizations to take in our hands the pandemic that is not only the covid-19 but also the hunger and this repressor government!
Enough is enough! National fighting committee! General strike! |
