Statement of the family of Santiago Maldonado:
Santiago was last seen on August 1st, 2017. It was 120 hours ago.
Witnesses affirm this and it was corroborated by Judge Otranto, who effectively arrested the Gendarmerie last August 1 in Cushamen Chubut in the framework of repression in the Mapuche Community.
Given the circumstances, we are desperate for what gendarmerie might have done with him.
The National State, in the figure of the Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich, as representative of the executive branch, Judge Otranto of the Judiciary and the Deputy Prosecutor for the Public Ministry, are responsible for the appearance of Santiago.
It is inadmissible that in a state of law, security forces do not provide evidence, nor speak, nor collaborate to clarify, being themselves who participated in the arrest and forced disappearance of Santiago.
The State is obliged to articulate in time and form the actions to clarify the circumstances in which the events happened and who were the responsible actors, must oblige the National Gendarmerie to report what happened.
We believed that we had overcome these harmful and unacceptable practices.
As Family, besides the logical pain and uncertainty, we will continue to hold the State accountable until Santiago appears.
