On Friday, October 1, a fake “Assembly” called by the Pignanelli union bureaucracy was held in Toyota to impose the Flexibilization Act-Agreement. During 2 or 3 days the delegates of the different sectors, together with the members of the Internal Commission and even the directors of the SMATA section, toured the warehouses, pressuring the workers to accept this betrayal, justifying it in pursuit of the "job stability” and the promise that 1012 "temporarily" hired comrades would become permanent workers. They exerted terror even making the workers know that whoever reject the Act will be changed from sector or worse. In addition to this, many other clauses that will be modified by this agreement, were not even informed, moreover some are yet not fully defined!
Initially this "Assembly" was to be held in 10 days but the bureaucracy revved the engines and organized it overnight. The reason was in those few days of the Green militants' "touring" through the sectors, the workers demonstrated in their vast majority the rejection of this betrayal. That is why they hurried up, so as not to allow time for hatred and anger to take on forms of struggle. And that was how the yes "vote" was reached.
Of course, only one Green List spokesperson spoke, and it was Pignanelli's son. However it is noteworthy that a group of more than 100 workers had the courage to vote against this open betrayal. The union bureaucrats needed to impose the attack right now to take away from us a historical conquest like Saturdays, a conquest for which the revolutionary workers of the "Cordobazo" of 1968 had fought and left one of the greatest legacies of our class struggle.
With this treasonous agreement, Toyota saves the payment of 80 thousand overtime hours per month on Saturdays that will be paid each as a simple hour and not as extra hours. And the increase of 26 thousand production units represents an increase in turnover of 800 million dollars. This imperialist employer only cares about its profits and does not hesitate to defend them; that is why we had to work non-stop during the pandemic, with thousands of workers getting sick with Covid and dying as comrade Marcos Salazar months ago. That's why in Japan, where there are thousands of Toyota workers, the leading cause of death among workers is heart attacks from overwork. Murderous bloodsucking bosses!
This is the true face of Toyota, a "model" company and friend of the Peronist government. It is a real war that employers and bosses' politicians have been waging on us!; ad not only on Toyota workers but on all workers in the automotive industry and all workers in the country. While the bosses' politicians frame-up the electoral circus where the Peronists paint themselves as "defenders of the rights of the workers", actually, they with their government together with the union bureaucracy are passing the most brutal labor reform sector by sector, factory by factory. A reform that the former president Macri tried to pass during his government and could not due to the combat of dozens of thousand exploited in front of the Congress building on December 18 and 19, 2017. It was a fight in defense of workers' pensions, for which the Macri "neoliberals" yesterday and the Fernandezes today with the employers' justice subordinated to the transnationals, imprisoned and keep in jail Sebastián Romero, former GM delegate, opponent of the traitors of the SMATA Green List . For this he was fired off his job and detained!
They have persecuted and got rid of the most combative workers and factory internal commissions to be able to finally pass such a flexibilizing offensive. This balance of forces allowing them to advance on our collective agreement was not conquered overnight. There have been years and years of attacks. The workers must remember that in 2014 the US imperialist employers of Lear together with the Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner government and the bureaucracy, left hundreds of comrades in the street through militarizing the factory and displacing an internal commission by the gunmen of the Green List. The same year and with a similar action, more than 60 Gestamp workers were also left onto the street by the same actors.
Previously 22 Kromberg workers had been laid off. Thousands of jobs were lost, especially in auto parts, due to the traitors of the Pigananelli's Green List that in each of these conflicts isolated the fighting workers from the rest of the auto workers in the country and persecuted the most combative comrades. And today, comrades, once they had imposed a sea of unemployed and got rid of the vanguard and advanced workers leaving them in the labor precariousness with garbage contracts and outsourcing, the Toyota employers together with the SMATA and the government come for our long won conquests. Thus, the bureaucracy "squeezes" us in the worst way every day, with the harsh reality that millions of workers have been left without jobs in the country, surviving with the miserable crumbs that the state of the bosses drops such as the AUH (a meagre family subsidy for unregistered and casual workers) and the IFE (a three months long bonus for some layers of unemployed), in the midst of the Covid pandemic that has deepened the hardships of the exploited. Because nobody wants to lose their job, we all know that outside there is no work. For this reason, comrades, we will not be able to fight to defend our conquests if we do not raise the flags of the fight for genuine work for all the unemployed, starting with the thousands of comrades dismissed in recent years in the industry. The effective and unionized workers must lead this fight! ! For the unity of the employed and unemployed workers, today divided by the treacherous union and "piqueteros" (unemployed organizations) bureaucracies! Enough of unemployment! Nationalization without compensation and under workers' control of any company that shutters, furloughs or dismisses! Distribution of working hours by imposing one more shift in all the factories of the industry so that hundreds of thousands can go to work without a wage reduction! Enough of first and second class workers! All those that have been hired in precarious jobs, to permanent payroll NOW! Enough of flexibility and precariousness! Let every new worker who enters the factory do so as a registered one and for an indefinite term! From the access turnstile to the indoors, we are ALL metal mechanics! All under the SMATA automotive agreement! Down with the "income tax" theft with which the Fernandezes government pays the IMF and also pays the ATPs (a subsidy for the employers, to pay part of the workers' wages) that go into the pocket of companies like Toyota. This is the best program to unite the employed and unemployed workers; thusa very powerful unity would be forged to defeat the traitors of the bureaucracy as well as these transnational corporations.
Let's quickly get on our feet to reverse this punch and back stab we've suffered! Because comrades, if we don't, this will not be the last sell-out of some conquest. Sooner rather than later they will come for more, starting with the new hires that there will be. They will even try to generalize this agreement to other automakers and auto parts companies. It is a question of life and death for us workers in defeating this treacherous bureaucracy, our lives and that of our families depend on uniting ourselves not only in the factory but with all the automotive colleagues in the country. Let us unite with the workers of VW, Renault, GM and the other automakers and auto parts companies to defeat these traitors and counter the attack on our conquests! Down with the Toyotista Peronist union bureaucracy of the Green Ticket in Smata! Down with the present and all the "Acts-agreement" that undermine our collective agreement! Open the way to the bases! These sellouts want us to believe that they are invincible and that we will always have to bow our heads ... well, it is not like that, comrades, we all know that the vast majority of the factory workers are against this flexibility and precarization, it is a matter of organizing ourselves, of coordinating ourselves from below, to get rid of the traitors and impose the true will of the great majority! Let's organize base assemblies sector by sector to vote by show of hands for the best comrades to lead the fight, without the informers of the bureaucracy, to put ourselves on the stand and defeat so much undermining of our conquests! For a general assembly that the traitors do not attend and all the base workmates, as well as the outsourced do, starting with the cleaning colleagues who charge a miserable basic of AR$ 30,000 (USD 200 a month).
There, all of us together effective, "temporarily" hired and outsourced, organizing our self-defense to take care of the thugs of the bureaucracy, we could democratically debate and vote on a plan of struggle to make all our demands come true.
We must return to the path of Cordobazo, which defeating the bureaucracy in the streets, with the class internal commissions at the head, factory takeovers, pickets and strikes were able to defend the conquest of double paid Saturdays ! This is the way to fight. We must follow the path of the ARS (State Rio Santiago Shipyard) comrades who organize themselves into sectors, electing recallable delegates with fixed mandate by show of hands! Or like the comrades of the Buenos Aires port and its terminal 5 who, with the delegates at their head and solving everything in assemblies with the base, defend their work and confront labor flexibility. That is the way, comrades.
The left-wing parties that make up the FIT-U (United Left Front of the Workers) have filed complaints about this sell-out in the Toyota plant, but none of them calls to follow the mentioned path of struggle, they limit themselves to demanding the bureaucracy (though these are part in the attack on our conquests!) or asking us that we vote for their electoral ticket, arguing that with leftist parliamentarians the workers can stop this bosses offensive! This policy of subordination to the bureaucracy and the institutions of the bosses' state has already been also suffered by the workers of Lear and Gestamp. The FIT (U) parties carry out each their different “union meetings” separately and have not convened any truly unitary meeting with delegates with mandate from base assemblies of all the combative organizations and the picketer movements that they lead and influence in order to forge the unity of the employed and unemployed workers to struggle. It is time for them to break with this totally powerless policy in the face of the attack by the transnationals, their government, their judges, their hound dogs of the union bureaucracies such as SMATA and their repressive forces. We workers need more than ever those internal commissions and unions such as the SUTNA, some time ago taken from the bureaucracy's hands, which are now led by these currents. We need the broadest unity for our fight. How much easier would it be to face this true labor reform that Toyota is imposing on thousands of workers, if we were together with all those who want to confront the generalized attack, with the teachers, the health workers, the tire workers, the oil workers and fundamentally with the millions of unemployed from the piqueteros movements that are beginning to win the streets to stop the growing misery. It is necessary for all the workers of the country to unite our forces; that from these internal commissions and unions snatched from the bureaucracy, together with the combative piqueteros movements and the combative self-convened workers, a National Struggle Committee is convened right now. To organize a great fight against the Labor Reform like the one we workers carried out on December 18 and 19, 2017 against the attack on pensions. Time is running out, comrades, it is time for these conquests, such as the organizations that we took from the bureaucracy, to be put at the service of this fight or sooner rather than later they will also be lost.
