Unfortunately, we have seen the images of the Spanish former Judge Baltasar Garzon walking through the streets of Chile, as if he were a champion of human rights, even participating in the Latin American Forum of Human Rights (FOLADH).
Baltasar Garzón disguised himself as “progressive” by generating summaries against Chilean or Argentine military and many organizations like today the Pinochetista Senate and the CCP, among others, continue disguising him as a “human rights defender”.
Reality could not be further from the truth. Baltazar Garzón collaborated very gladly in creating repressive formulas and endorsing the testimonies taken under torture against the Basque and Catalan self-determination militants. His performance was so brutal that even several international organizations of "defense of human rights" were forced to take part in the adverse sentences to the Spanish government for reasons framed by Garzón and that had ended up with male and female prisoners brutally tortured.
The "Garzón doctrine", responsible for the imprisonment of hundreds of Basque prisoners:
In the 90s, the "Garzón doctrine" began, with its dogma of "everything is ETA" promulgated by Judge Baltasar Garzón, for which he accused of being part of the "social network" of ETA to any activist or association with the slightest link with the independence movement, including environmental associations or newspapers such as Egin (closed in a decision that, ten years later, was labeled as illegal by the Spanish State Supreme Court). Dozens of people were charged and detained and media closed.
Then in 2006 Judge Garzón returned to the charge, condemning the main leaders of Gestoras pro Amnesty to ten years in prison, an organization that aimed to provide human and legal assistance to ETA prisoners.
But it was not only in the Basque Country where Garzón acted as a repressor, jailer and torturer. Also in the 1990s he participated in a police operation called “Garzonada” where 45 people allegedly linked to the Catalan independence movement were imprisoned for alleged membership of the Terra LLiure organization. In 1995, 25 of the detainees were tried and 18 of them were convicted of belonging to the armed organization. The echo of the events lengthened over time due to allegations of torture of 17 of the detainees. Following these complaints, a judicial process was launched that ended in the European Court of Human Rights in 2004 and which condemned the Spanish State for not investigating the allegations of torture, although it would have ruled out the existence of evidence on the alleged tortures.
Stop whitewashing the torturer judge Baltasar Garzón, whose doctrine allowed the Spanish State monarchy and its regime to imprison more than 400 Basques and Catalans!
Baltasar Garzón represents the opposite of the heroic Chilean revolutionary youth in the streets! Garzón, the Chilean CP and other saviors of Piñera, HANDS OFF the streets of Chile!
