SOS Colombia
They are killing us
Major day of struggle and solidarity with the workers and the Colombian people
Words from Hayde, grandmother who supports the youth of the First Line
“They are young people who want a better salary,
a better future”
My name is Hayde Italia Cabrera Cortés. I am supporting the First Line of the Carrilera (old track) of Alfonso López. My complaint is that it is not fair that they are massacring our children. As you can see, I am here with my granddaughter because there is a government that is not listening to young people. Instead of listening to them, they are making them disappear, they are putting them in prison, they are dismembering them, they are throwing expired tear gas on the elderly.
I was in Buga with my grandson, because there is also a comrade who is participating there defending the children, because they are young people who have not even had an identity card and, if they do, they cannot vote. This is not fair. On Tuesday my granddaughter present here had to help an elderly person and a one and a half year old child who died.
My calling is as a mother, because at the level of love for my granddaughter, I am collaborating in this, for this, please, not to go unpunished, because at the moment I am feeling a great pain. I have a daughter deprived of liberty and I know that the law in Colombia attacks our young people. They are being killed.
To you President, if you listen to this, don't you have a mother? Don't you have children? Look at the pain we are feeling, they are killing our children.
Uribe, why are you killing our people? Why do you send the police to massacre our young people? What's wrong with you, you don't have a heart? Don't you know that there is a God who is going to take revenge and do justice? Because this is not going to go unpunished.
The only thing I say to you, if you are seeing me nationally and internationally, let's put our hands on our hearts and go out to support our boys! They are not vandals, they are not pot people, they are not all dregs, they are young people who want a better salary, a better future.
That is why I invite you to vote conscientiously, not for a tamale, or for a lump of cement or for a politician who comes to brainwash us, to entangle us with lies, because they have never done anything for Colombia, they have never done anything for our land, where there is a lot of wealth -that at the moment are trampling on our rights.
How sad to see that we as Colombians have to leave our Colombia to be humiliated and mistreated when we can be here and these young people who are seeking their rights are being massacred. That's not fair. God bless you.
