After the day 05/18 (when 7 months had passed since our revolution began) the exploited in the El Bosque commune started huge protests against the suffering imposed by the government and employers in the midst of this crisis and engaged in hard clashes with the murderous pacos; this was replicated in several communes of Santiago and other in the rest of the country. The hunger revolts have continued throughout this week.
The poor workers and the ruined middle classes have paid the full cost of the economic and health crisis, which has made it evident that this decaying capitalist system can no longer give any measure of progress to the lives of the exploited.
As a neighbor from El Bosque affirmed: “People, we poor people are no longer afraid of the virus, if we were, we would not be demonstrating here; the more we are afraid of hunger, poverty, misery. We want concrete solutions: we demand the release of the funds from the AFPs (Mandatory Retirement Funds, NT), it is our money, which belongs to us.” And another neighbor from the same commune protested against the bosses' politicians, noting that: “It is easy to say 'stay at home' when they have monthly incomes of over 6 and a half million pesos (u$ 8,100)… when they have their salaries assured; our people are starving, we are going to go out to the street, nobody will stop this, other communes will join, the entire (population of) El Bosque will be added, all against Sadi Melo (Socialist Party), all against Claudia Pizarro (Christian Democrats), all against the corrupt politicians of this country.” The reason is, if the coronavirus does not kill them, hunger will, and the only way out is to fight.
In response to this, the murderous government of Piñera announced in recent days the increase in the amount of deliveries of "family baskets" (boxes with food and cleaning supplies) and today, announced the advance payment of the Emergency Family Income (IFE), the miserable subsidy of 65,000 Chilean pesos (u$ 80,60) per family member the first month and in July C$ 45,500 (u$ 56,40) per family member; initially they will be paid from May 29 to quell these revolts that threaten to re-ignite the revolution that we started on October 18 last year. However, their miserable "protection" plans have not been enough to silence the residents of the working-class neighborhoods, who have started to fight against this fierce attack on their already precarious living conditions.
In this way, during the days after 05/18, the confrontations in the streets continued with barricades in Rancagua, Osorno, Concepción, Punta Arenas, La Pintana, Cerrillos and Maipú, being the last three communes of the Metropolitan Region. In addition, in Maipu there were two attempts to loot supermarkets, although they were immediately repressed by police forces.
The fighting also took place in the traditional "camps" (taken plots where precarious houses are built), as in the camps of La Florida (RM) and Francke (Osorno), both called "Dignity", where protests developed against the municipalities of those communes.
Faced with the scarcity of resources, the workers have seen the need to build “soup kitchens” in the most impoverished populations (neighborhoods), with 30 now nationwide. This has been brewing since the October uprising, where the self-organization of the assemblies shows that the working class has had to set up its own fighting organizations in the face of the loss of prestige of the union bureaucracy that was emptying the workers' organizations that it leads from their combative content. Thus, in a soup kitchen in the commune of La Granja in the Metropolitan Region, the pacos spilled out the content of pots where the food was cooking on the ground as a form of repression.
Meanwhile, repression and political persecution by the bourgeois state and its infamous government intensify. Proof of this are the dozens of detainees during the protests, such as the case of a young man who is a member of the Popular Radio of Rancagua, who was detained on Wednesday 20/05 while taking record of the events that occurred in the protests in that city. The comrade was detained twice and there is a record that in the town where he was captured, the pacos also went into the narrow streets flanked by overcrowded houses to repress the people living there. On the other hand, in the commune of Cerrillos, in the Metropolitan Region, in a confrontation with the pacos, one of them was injured and immediately Piñera came out to declare that "he will persecute those responsible and will be implacable with them." Along with this we have the judicial cases raised against the fighters of the October 18 revolution who have been captured by the bourgeois state and placed in its dungeons, and also the comrades who have already been convicted.
Meanwhile, the anti-worker government continues to subject millions of workers to the contagion of Covid19. Thus, on 05/20, nine workers at a construction site of the CyR company in Concepcion were infected and more than 200 workers will have to carry out preventive quarantine for maintaining close contacts with those infected. At the same time, 25 Haitian immigrant workers who were demanding payment of their wages that were in arrears, at the Piccola Italia processing plant in Colina, were brutally repressed by the murderous Pacos.
In Latin America the workers and the combative youth are already fighting back the attack of the capitalist governments and regimes have launched on them to alleviate their own crisis, since the exploited are not willing to starve to save the exploiters' businesses. This is how these battles have added to those carried out by the masses in Argentina, Ecuador or Bolivia. While the entire reformist left demands that the bourgeois state take charge and respond to this enormous health crisis, it has already been more than demonstrated that the state is only there to control and repress the workers and that the only solution for them is the path to the Socialist Revolution
