Roundtable discussion:
THE DAILY UPDATES ON THE WAR IN SYRIA. 6 YEARS OF GENOCIDE.
PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK “SYRIA UNDER FIRE-A BLOODSTAINED REVOLUTION”
Today a roundtable was carried out to debate the updates on Syria at 6 years of genocide as well as present the Spanish edition of the book “Syria Under Fire”.
The debate was coordinated by Victoria Caro Bernal member of the University “Universidad Abierta de Retiro” and the speakers were Wassim Zabad, president of “Asociación Palmira de Apoyo al Pueblo Sirio” (Association Palmira in support to the Syrian People) , Paula Medrano representative of Rudolph Klement Public Housing and Benito Toribio Morales as member of “Colectivo Democracia Obrera Madrid” (Collective Worker Democracy Madrid). Among the participants in the meeting were the well known Syrian journalist Abdallah and the refugee OSAMA ABDUL MOSHEN to whom a Hungarian journalist tripped when he tried to enter Europe in the middle of 2015.
After introducing all the speakers Victoria presented the book “2013-2014 Syria Under Fire- a Bloodstained Revolution” written by the authors Carlos Munzer, Abu Muad and Abu Al Baraa. She posed that this book was written by people who took part of such revolution and correspondents in the battlefield.
Then, she asked to make a minute of silence for the tens of thousands Syrian massacred and for Abu Al Baraa-co-author of the book, killed while fighting for breaking the siege on Aleppo.
Wasim Zabad spoke on the current situation in Syria as regards the different emplacement of the contenders on the ground. During his speech he made reference to the latest military and diplomatic movements, specifically he made reference to the latest conversations towards the conference in Kazakhstan.
During these six years more than 400.000 people have died, more than 10.000 of disappeared and more than 150.000 prisoners in the Bashar al Assad’s jails.
He denounced the pact between Turkey and Russia to stop the establishment of a Kurdish state and the role of the United States.
Abdallah, a Syrian journalist who was participating in the meeting, remarked the fact that either democrats with Obama or Republicans with Trumps are the base of international terrorism since their companies support it.
Wassim continued denouncing that while Obama pretended to appear as “progressive” every 20 minutes a U.S bomb was launched on Sirya, Iraq or Afghanistan and he unconditionally supported Zionism. He stated that Obama wanted the war in Syria to continue.
He denounced the conference that will be realized in Kazakhstan where the position of the Syrian people will not be represented.
Paula Medrano explained how the Syrian revolution was part of a chain of revolutions that from Tunis, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain and Libya shook the entire Maghreb and Middle East. The people did not demand democracy and these were not Arab springs; the exploited demanded freedom to eat, work even Bouazizi in Tunisia asked for freedom to sell fruits in the market.
This revolution in the Arab world threatened with crossing towards Europe thus all the counterrevolutionary leaderships of the World Social Forum and the trade unions bureaucracies prevented it from happening.
Meanwhile organizations that claim to be trotskyist posed a program to demand weapons to USA, so they submitted themselves to the bourgeois leadership of the FSA.
After mentioning a succession of events already described in the book from 2011 to 2014 and going into the last years, Paula denounced the conference of Kazakhstan of Putin, Erdogan and Obama where the bourgeoisie wants to share out the booty of Syria on the backs of thousands massacred exploited and millions of refugees.
There was a special mention for the brave factory workers from La Paz-Bolivia who claim to be against the slaughtering in Syria in support to their exploited brothers as well as from the Spanish State the EMT bus workers from Madrid, Solidaridad Obrera (Worker Solidarity) and recently CoBas did so too.
An example that every world trade union should follow re-taking the proletarian internationalism by sending brigades, food, medicine, etc. for the Syrian exploited.
It can’t happen that the big trade unions do nothing when from the Spanish state organizations such as Asociación de Apoyo al Pueblo Sirio –AAPS- (Association in Support to the Syrian People) and Asociación Palmira de apoyo al pueblo sirio (Palmira Association in Support to the Syrian People) send containers with supply
Benito Toribio explained the positions the Left currents have taken before the revolution and war in Syria. He dismantled one by one the arguments the Stalinists put forward at worldwide level to sustain Bashar saying things such as “Assad is secular” “anti-zionist”, that “he fights against ISIS” and “he is anti-imperialist”.
Then, he focused on contrasting and clarifying the different “theories” promulgated by Stalinists and social-imperialists on the “staged-revolution” submitting the working class to the bourgeoisie on one side and on the other side the position of the internationalist revolutionaries, that is, our theory-program: the permanent revolution. Trotkyists fight for the working class to take power. He concluded that the objective conditions for the socialist revolution are more than mature but the leaderships were not at the level of it and there exist an over-abundance of treacherous leaderships, and only a working class leadership with a revolutionary program can lead the revolution to succeed.
He finished exposing an analogy between the Spanish civil war in the `30s and the ongoing Syrian war and revolution pointing at Bashar al Assad as the current Franco.
A moving moment of the meeting was the homage we pay to OSAMA ABDUL MOSHEN in the name of thousands of Syrian refugees who crossed the Mediterranean to tell their truth about what was happening in Syria breaking the fence of slanders and silence on the Syrian revolutionaries.
The history of Osama was known at worldwide level two years ago when a reactionary Hungarian journalist tripped him and his son to prevent them to reaching Europe. Nowadays, Osama still has his family in Turkey and is unable to gather them.
He addressed the participants in the meeting saying he is only one of the thousands of stories experienced by the refugees when trying to reach Europe.
From the public, Eduardo Ballán, a well-known Syrian activist and poet posed that one of the plans for Syria is the balkanization, that is, the partition of the nation among the different interested regional powers. Besides he remarked the merit of Trotskyism and the IV International as regards the analysis on Syrian situation.
Abdallah, the Syrian journalist, intervened in the meeting once again emphasising that those left currents that have sustained Bashar al Assad are put themselves on Zionism’s side since Bashar has been the best guard of the borders for Israel in the Golan Highs.
To the end the meeting, Victoria read two poems she wrote on the Syrian refugees and Eduardo Ballán read a poet of his book “Syria, Spring and the Jasmines”.
