We are still in the trenches
Cádiz the beach, Cádiz Carnival. Cádiz, workers' struggle!
A comrade in his 30s told me on the scale: “I’ve enjoyed these days. I would have gone on until the end, until getting EVERYTHING. In the street, fighting for what is mine, I’ve felt free”. When a young man goes to work, in shipyards, in a bar or wherever, little by little reality is swallowing up all their revolutionary ideals of them that are given to us with experience. Going to work is getting older and changing the rebellion of a child for slavery. What your parents have not achieved, controlling your rebellion, a stranger does so by abusing the fact that in the Bay we are born with unemployment in our DNA. They bring us to our knees because the big factories are dictatorships where we live under blackmail: “if you're quiet, I'll hire you; if you speak, you’re out”.
And we went to the streets, fleeing from the concentration camps that are the factories to protect ourselves in our NEIGHBORHOODS that are our barracks. And most of our neighbors welcomed us with open arms because in Cádiz we learned, years ago, that the STRUGGLE in the STREETS is PROFITABLE and that keeping the three shipyards running is worth much more than burning 100 garbage cans.
But you and I, and you and we, WE ALL, know that Class Pride does not fill our refrigerators, that after so many days of struggle we have to pay the mortgage, the electricity... we have to buy the presents for the holidays... The Pressure no longer comes from the bosses’ coercion, the pressure comes when we go back home. If in the picket we have returned to being young, to being free, the return to our daily life is very hard. And to top it all, as they have sold us THE SAME OLD ONES, we return to the factories with a 2% salary increase and a 98% NON-COMPLIANCE and outrage.
But what if Class Pride were profitable and if it filled our fridge? Because without pride, without taking to the streets, we have had draws. You and I, you and us, WE ALL, know that in metal we’re earning less and less, they push us more and we have MUCH less union freedom than in the ‘80s. What if we add WORKER INTELLIGENCE to Class Pride?
CLASS PRIDE + WORKER'S INTELLIGENCE = ORGANIZATION
CLASS PRIDE + WORKER INTELLIGENCE = The comrades of Tubacex, after 235 days of strike and EVERYONE returning to work, travelled more than 1000 km to support us and, as the cherry on the cake, we received € 5,000 in the cash boxresistance that "surpassed" from theirs.
CLASS PRIDE + WORKER INTELLIGENCE = From Argentina, Uruguay, France, Madrid, Orense, Seville, Granada... Basques or Catalans, regardless of where they were born, they stood in solidarity with our cause because the Working Class DOES NOT HAVE BORDERS. The day we all take to the streets together is not that far anymore, in Cádiz they have begun to put a date on that day.
CLASS PRIDE + WORKER INTELLIGENCE = If the same old ones sell us, let's kick out the traitors! Mass Disenrollment Now! May Class Unionism reborn. Trade unions as tools for the worker, where the workers decide. Even more important than the Message, the MESSENGER; and these must be the workers without intermediaries. Neither work is outsourced nor is unionism outsourced.
CLASS PRIDE + WORKER INTELLIGENCE = We are all Metal. Workers are not only handpicked delegates. Who are we metal workers? Those of us who are working at the specific moment in which an agreement is being negotiated, but also those who have been forced to pack their bags or those who are unemployed at that moment. WE ARE STRONGERALL TOGETHER. Let's change the rules, let's change the legislation, let's change the mechanisms. MAY THE WORKERS ASSEMBLIES RETURN.
And who will be the metal workers of the future?
If a welder goes to work in a factory, it is because of the number of rods that they have burned in theirschool and not because they are children of certain family. Let's change the rules, let's change the legislation, let's change the mechanisms. TRANSPARENT JOB FAIRS NOW!
CLASS PRIDE + WORKER INTELLIGENCE = If factories are concentration camps, neighborhoods are our barracks. Let's prepare our next battles from the collectives. NOT JUST FOR METAL, FOR THE WHOLE WORKING CLASS. In Cádiz we must continue talking about the Working Class, the Resistance Fund and the Struggle in the streets. THE FIGHT IS WORTH IT. In Cádiz we have to prepare for the next battle from now on so that the EXPLOSION of indignation these days, WITH ORGANIZATION, becomes a REVOLUTION.
