One class, one fight! Continental general strike!
Today in EuskalHerria (Basque Country, NT), under the motto "Decent work, life and pensions", a general strike was carried out with a high level of compliance, convened by the unions ELA, LAB, CNT, Steilas, Esk, Ehne, Hiru and Etxalde, and also pensioner groups. The strike had effectiveness over 60% in Education, was "generalized" in Justice and Health, where people criticized the high amount of mandatory minimum services; it had "extensive compliance" in the Town Halls, while in Euskotren and Metro there has been "less compliance" due to the abusive amount of minimum services required.
Thousands of protesters took to the streets in the main cities: 50,000 in Bilbao, 35,000 in San Sebastián and Pamplona, and 25,000 in Vitoria-Gasteiz. During the strike day, thousands of people took part in the demonstrations under the motto "Public pensions now! Lan eta bizitzaduinadenontzat! (Decent work and life for everybody)".
With pickets in the industrial areas and pot-banging in the neighborhoods, the general strike was organized in response to the call made by the pensioners and despite the boycott of the traitorous union bureaucracy of CCOO and UGT, and other unions such as CGT that did not support the strike. As a response, the Ertzaintza (Basque regional police, NT) has arrested 10 activists in the Basque Country and Navarra, i.e., five in each territory.
Unfortunately, in the rest of the Spanish state, thanks to UGT and CCOO, the working class could not join the general strike for a demand of the entire Spanish State. However, within the combative unionism, demonstrations were held in support in Barcelona and in Madrid.
Unidas Podemos (United We Can), showed the EH strike a cold shoulder and embraced the PSOE and the King
It was not only the union bureaucracies of CCOO and UGT that refused to support the legitimate demands of the strike in EuskalHerria, on the grounds that "a strike is not reasonable" without seeing first what the new government does. The general secretary of Po*demos Euskadi also stated that he was concerned about the "use by some sectors" "in a pre-electoral way," of the appeal for a general strike. Thus Podemos, together with CCOO and UGT, defended the government of PSOE-UP and the 1978 regime, to guarantee the employers of the IBEX 35 the social peace that they need to continue exploiting the working class at will.
Unidas Podemos, which betrayed yesterday the movement of the "Indignados" (The Outraged), who later on sold out the independence struggle of the Catalan people, today acts as a scab of the EuskalHerria strike to continue supporting the monarchy and its government, of which it is part. A government led by the PSOE that participated, together with the PP and all the employers' parties, of the Toledo Pact. An agreement designed to break the public pension model so that the pensions would not be based on a deferred salary that had as a guarantee the application of the CPI (Consumer Price Index) for its revaluation. The Toledo Pact simplified the system so that the state was not responsible for guaranteeing the rights of the entire population or in capacity to solve it, giving prominence to private and individual pension plans. The PSOE was also the one that began the attack on pensions with Zapatero in 2011, delaying the retirement age to 67 years and extending the calculation period for the regulatory base.
Down with the Toledo Pact! For decent pensions! Retirement at age 55 with 100% of salary!
No truce to the government of PSOE-UP and the bosses of the IBEX 35! No truce to the exploiters!
The French working class shows the way to defeat the attack of the capitalists
The French working class is staging more than 56 days of a historic strike that has paralyzed transport, with pickets, roadblocks, demonstrations, etc. Surpassing even their leaderships and facing trade union bureaucracy, they have taken the fight into their own hands.
Macron's attack is the same as the whole of the working class in the Spanish State and throughout Europe is suffering. For the French working class as well as for the European one, the success of this struggle, that it not be isolated is a matter of life and death, because if the attack in France achieves its goal, then the same would happen in the Spanish State, Germany, and the whole of the European working class may suffer the consequences.
For years, the European trade union bureaucracy, led by the CPs, has saved the imperialist governments while the toughest attacks against the conquests of the working class materialized. Our struggle was divided country by country and that strengthened the regimes and weakened our class. We cannot allow the same thing to happen again!
Today France is a trench combat of the entire European working class against imperialist Maastricht.
