With thousands of marches against Parliament and clashes with the police…
Rebel youth and workers face repressive laws of the Mitsotakis government
Once again, the Greek Communist Party (KKE) protects the Parliament of the exploiters by smashing heads of the rebel youth vanguard
On July 9, Greece was again the scenery of a great day of struggle. Ten thousand young people and workers mobilized to Parliament in Athens, the capital. Massive mobilizations took place in 40 other cities in the country.
The objective of such protests was to prevent Parliament from passing a law sent by the Mitsotakis (New Democracy) government that restricts and even prohibits marches. It establishes that any mobilization that is not organized and agreed with the government will be illegal. Moreover, the government can deny the right to carry out the demo without having to explain. The pretext presented by Mitsotakis to propose this law is that "traffic interruptions must be avoided".
The law, based on a 1971 decree of the bloody dictatorship of the Colonels that governed at the time, is a new repressive step that this government climbs in just a year and a half that it has been in office. Evictions to refugees, evictions to centers taken over to put up refugees in the Exarchia rebel neighborhood (Athens) and keeping the jails full of political prisoners are just a few examples this government is coming to impose the worst plans for hunger and misery by force of repression.
With the pandemic and the global economic crisis, the hardships for Greek workers and youth have worsened. None of the brutal adjustment plans (Memoranda) imposed by all the governments from 2008 to nowadays, to unload all their crises on the masses and snatch them all their gains have been sufficient. Even the worst adjustment in history suffered by Greek workers at the hands of the Syriza government in 2015-2019 was not enough. The Troika and the Greek ship-owners need more to cover their losses.
The Mitsotakis government of New Democracy attacks and prevails by means of its police, special forces, jails and now repressive laws. Therefore the law was approved by 187 votes, despite the protests. During the mobilization on July 9 young Greeks expressed all their anger against this flagrant attack on elementary democratic rights by trying to get to Parliament, the only way to prevent the vote. But the police strongly repressed protesters who defended themselves and fought with any self-defense elements they had. 9 comrades were arrested and several were wounded.
But it was above all the Greek Stalinist Communist Party (KKE), from the PAME union center, that again saved the life of Parliament, clubbing the combative vanguard with sticks. Against the fair sentiment of the workers and the rebellious youth who were struggling to get to Congress and prevent the vote on this nefarious law, the KKE made a cordon with its security guard to control and divide the thousands of mobilized workers, while trying to prevent the youth from advancing on the Parliament, as denounced by several anarchist groups. This is the same KKE that in 2011 defended the Troika Parliament with sticks, bursting the heads of the combative youth and the exploited so that they would not set it ablaze and settle accounts with that den of bandits. Today like yesterday, the KKE defends against the masses this rubber-stamp of the Troika that has been taking away all the conquests and attacking the workers and the people. As a reward, the Stalinists received the congratulations of the Minister of Citizenship Care, Chryssochoidis, for their "exemplary behavior".
However, they failed to prevent vanguard sectors from attacking Parliament with sticks and Molotov bombs.
Down with the anti-mobilization law of Mitsotakis!
Freedom for all political prisoners!
We must defeat the plans of hunger, misery and repression of the government of the exploiters!
Out with Mitsotakis! Out of Greece with the Troika of the ECB, the European Commission and the IMF!
