Tribute to Leon Trotsky, 80 years since his assassination by Stalinism
From Brazil, speech by Silvia, from the editorial committee of the paper “The Truth of the Oppressed”
"Neoliberal capital ravaged Lebanon, destroyed the economy,
laid the country in utter misery"
Good afternoon, comrades. It is a pleasure to be with all of you. It is the first time I have participated in a meeting like this. It is a great pleasure for me to be here paying homage to Trotsky, our comrade.
I wanted to make a small contribution about the revolutions in the Middle East, especially now that a revolution has started in Lebanon. Our comrades in Lebanon, as we all know, are in a very difficult, disastrous situation. This has been happening there for some years. Neoliberalism, neoliberal capital ravaged Lebanon, destroyed the economy, put the country in total misery, about 80% of the Lebanese people are in need of help right now.
The situation worsened now, as we all know, with the explosion of the port, and until now the truth of that explosion is not known, how it happened, what the causes were. And together with all this tragedy we have the total abandonment on behalf of the Stalinist left, of the world left in general, (with the exception of a few groups that support, that supported the Syrian revolution), and that now also in this very difficult moment for Lebanon they are silent, no one says anything. Perhaps, it is probably due to the presence of Hezbollah, which is very strong in Lebanon, as we all know. However, now Stalinism is silent about the absence of Hezbollah in relation to the oppressed people and knows its business with imperialism, thus betraying the entire working class, the oppressed class of Lebanon.
I want to conclude by saying that despite all those difficulties, all those betrayals, all those calumnies that the Stalinist left imposes on us, we continue firm in our resolve to continue the struggle of our comrade, our martyr Trotsky and of all the oppressed in the world. And no matter how hard they want to shut us up, we will continue to be in the forefront and we will win. For we will win, comrades!
It is a great pleasure to be here with you again, thank you very much.
