International solidarity with the social fighters in Peru
Free all arbitrarily detained workers and students
From old Europe, which in 1789 in France signed the Rights of Humans and Citizens and the fundamental right to resist against oppression, “the most sacred right and the most indispensable duty”, we express our deep solidarity with a hundred social workers that in Peru were violently detained in the middle of a state of emergency due to the pandemic, violating the presumption of innocence, the right of defense, the freedom of opinion, of organization, of political participation.
More than ten lawyers human rights defenders were arrested, as well as activists, politicians, union leaders, popular artists, tens of students and other workers labeled as “terrorists” in an abusive operation that is crystal-clear exaggerated and seeks to cover up the critical situation that is ongoing in the Peruvian brother country. In Peru, political violence and internal war has been over for more than 25 years.
We demand the government of Peru the immediate release of the detained, for the rights to defense, organization and other fundamental rights to be respected and not to use repression as a political weapon to silence the dissident opinions, such as the demand for a new constitution.
