Words from the prison library “La Revuelta”

This instance is born from the bowels of the Chilean prison system, Santiago 1, module 14.
With the spontaneity of need, the idea of collectivizing and promoting reading in prison life has been born.
It serves as a means to face prison and the passing of days.
It is necessary to promote and decentralize these spaces, even more, carried out from within and above all from horizontality.
We operate autonomously and self-managed, born from the collective initiative, without the need for authorization or permits, trying to generate dynamism among us, as well as to share, kill time and take care of those who for various reasons cannot enter books.
We are a small and humble space that is positioned from within the collective struggle, we are resistance within the prison, seeking continuity in the dissemination of the ideas and practices that we had embraced in the street, shaping it with what we have at hand and in our daily lives, trying to politicize the space that, by imposition we inhabit.
We give a complice and warm embrace to all the groups and individuals that are part of this struggle and that continue it out there, to those deprived of liberty and to all the comrades political prisoners of the globe.
We keep fist up.
Nothing and nobody is forgotten. The revolt continues.
Santiago, January 2020.

LETTER FROM A COMRADE IMPRISONED IN OCTOBER UPRISING
January 14, originally published in La Beret Facebook newspaper
I write from the prison Santiago 1. module 14, to all my comrades who today enjoy precious freedom, being a fundamental pillar that keeps me strong in this constant struggle.
It has not been easy to adapt to this space so full of authoritarian behavior, both by the prison staff and by the same prisoners. The actions that I carry out in my day to day are not in vain, behind them there is a posture and a goal, which may or may not have the same path as yours, and if so, you will understand my actions. Do not stop fighting with this fall, do not fail in this precious moment where your free souls ask with longing to roam the streets, hoping to change the foundations of this inefficient system. One fell, but thousands will fall, and that will not be an excuse to stop fighting, much less to be a minion of this system, which keeps me apart from society for fighting for just causes. I thank every one of you who has participated in solidarity actions towards me and my family and for providing the necessary resources to see me outside these cells. I miss every one of you and I feel so close when solidarity activities are being carried out with those who most support me in this process; I wish you know that you give me a lot of energy to continue the struggle from within ♥.
I find myself and I also will feel o.k. in these days of investigation; the ties in here are numerous with comrades who are imprisoned here for the same cause, whether for actions carried out or frame ups by the state. I clarify that we are not criminals or a danger to society (only for the powerful), we are kids who fought and fight for something just, until this camouflaged dictatorship changes, so that once and for all we can be free of thought and action.
Greetings and blessings to all the comrades who are somehow present out there, may you not diminish your spirit since from here inside I will do my best to contribute with the fight.
Module 14, Santiago 1
[Freedom to all political prisoners for fighting]
* Political Prisoner, Protester *
Until all the cages are empty, freedom!

LETTER FROM THE POLITICAL PRISONERS-MANIFESTANTS
Originally posted on 02/09/20 on the Facebook account of the Coordinadora por la libertad de los presos politicos 18 de Octubre (Coordinator for the freedom of political prisoners October 18)
First of all, we thank each one of our fellow prisoners, throughout this land, who are in the same situation as us. Also we thank the young protesters for always being aware of the injustices and the first to say, enough is enough!
We thank, finally, our families, friends and all the people who continue to express themselves, so that things change. We all deserve to be able to manifest freely, without being brutally repressed, imprisoned or killed. We all deserve to make decisions, to make this country a fairer one.
Generally, not having access to information hurts a lot when it comes to obtaining cognitive development, besides not having access to knowledge leaves us out of those who do. The changes that are made in the country are taken by a few, while those decisions affect us all.
Most suffer from disorders due to various social inequalities.
The total collapse takes the reins of our thoughts, invaded by discomfort. Do not forget that the human being is also part of nature, animals and the planet itself.
By instinct we manifest ourselves to survive, knowing what affects us as a society.
The vast majority has been living with the backdrop of the social revolt, which, since October 18, has stormed in mass the oasis of a few.
We recognize ourselves as political prisoners. Given this scenario, we were hundreds and hundreds of thousands who, throughout the country, took to the streets to face the injustices of the Government of Piñera and the brutal repressions.
Despite being behind bars we do not see ourselves as victims, but as part of the collective struggle that the peoples of this region and the world are facing against capitalism.
Here we are with our heads up and united. We appeal to continue acts of solidarity for political prisoners and to continue our struggle, which is the struggle of us all. We are hurt in the soul at every wounded, arrested, disappeared and dead, in addition to feeling the anguish of family and friends.
One of the things that attracts my attention is that the Government and the parliamentarians put property first and not human lives. It is very frustrating that they worry about material things and not about the social problems that we drag for decades.
Many properties have fallen, but we are not aggressors or murderers of innocent people. We are here to defend ourselves from repression, while the pacos continue to kill and maim.
In today's society, drugs abound for stress, anxiety, depression, which only make us more dependent consumers. However, neither this nor any Government has taken charge of the mental health of the population.
Why is the society in which we are, so dependent on pills and treatments?
Why is psychiatry limited only to dispensing prescriptions and does not teach us what causes these diseases?
We are drifting from any mental illness, thinking was never encouraged as a stimulating activity for the human being. Education automates us, this system is based on market competition and individualism.
As long as there is misery there will be rebellion!
Up those who fight!
Piñera, get out!
Trial and punishment for all the pacos and soldiery and the political leaders of the repression!
Down with the walls of the prison society!
Freedom to prisoners and protesters!
