Lebanon - August 6 2020
Report from Lebanon for the paper The Truth of the Oppressed
The disaster in Beirut, with the explosion on August 4, made the situation of the Lebanese people, abandoned by the government for many years, to be even more tragic.
The explosion at the port left around 300,000 people homeless.
According to reports from Lebanese analysts and citizens, if Lebanon had been in a normal situation, it would’ve taken around 2 years to recover all the material damage caused by the explosion.
However, with a very precarious economy, with 90% or more of the population without resources, they cannot make the necessary repairs to their homes, because the money was stolen by the bankers who fled the country when the crisis came, as the population revolted and set some banks on fire.
The damage from the explosion of the port amounts to billions of dollars; in an economy already devastated by government corruption, which has placed the working class of Lebanon in poverty, depriving them of money, jobs and basic survival conditions, such as energy, fuel and food, etc.
With the explosion, 85% of the grain stored in the port was lost in the explosion.
In addition, the port was the place where imports of products destined for the consumption of the population arrived, since Lebanon imports everything.
The Lebanese government is responsible for what happened, because the army sent several requests to the government to do something about the explosive stock and nothing was done. Even 10 days ago, the new prime minister received a document to take action and looked the other way.
This is a corrupt government, which does not care about workers' lives, only about money. It only meets their interests and of others like Iran, but never those of the Lebanese people, nor of the 3 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
We will soon see that the revolution of the hungry will destroy the houses and the headquarters of the rulers of Lebanon.
