The Jockey Club democracy
A democracy for the rich that hides a ferocious bosses' dictatorship against workers and the people
On May 9th, while the parliament was in session in the middle of dollar carry trade and hours after the announcement of the agreement with the IMF, representatives of the "Group of 6" (the Association of local and imperialist banks, the UIA, the Rural Society, the Stock Exchange, the Chamber of Construction and the Chamber of Commerce) met to have lunch with Lorenzetti, the President of the Supreme Court of Justice, in the Jockey Club, the old seat of the leaders of the Argentine oligarchy.
In the midst of the economic turmoil, the Group of 6 demanded Lorenzetti "legal security" for his property and the application of favorable jurisprudence to the employers in labour lawsuits and compensation.
This is a sample of how the important issues in this democracy for the rich are decided. While some call the workers to struggle in the parliament, the employers define their following steps behind masses’ backs in the offices of the imperialist embassies. It is already clear that what happens in Argentina is not defined in parliament, a mere public office of Wall Street, whose role is deceiving the masses with false illusions of pseudo-democratic representation.
This is the democracy for the rich that works in Argentina: the Supreme Court and the caste of judges that survive since the genocidal military dictatorship; 600 thousand armed men of the repressive forces of the state that repress the people and persecute and imprison the workers and popular fighters; the union bureaucracy in the nationalized trade unions and their thugs that guarantees the social pact with the government and the employers; and a cardboard parliament to deceive the people and give "democratic" coverage to the dictatorship of capital and its ultra reactionary constitution of 1853-1994.
