USA: Submitted to the Democratic Party, the working class has their hands tied to fight for their interests
We must take up the fighting in Portland, Pennsylvania, Seattle..! We must crush fascism and dissolve the murderous police by setting up the workers' militia! We must unite the workers' ranks! We must fight against the capitalists for work and a living wage, health and education for all! We must expropriate without payment the imperialist transnationals that enslave the American working class and the workers and oppressed peoples of the world! The imperialist war machine must be stopped!
Let's occupy Wall Street! For the Socialist United States!
The currents that went through Trotskyism and deserted a long time ago, together with the American Communist Party, were, in fact, and have acted up to now as a left appendage of the Party of imperialist Democrats. They have been, for a long time, hanging onto the coattails of bourgeois swindlers like Sanders and social-imperialists like Ocasio-Cortez and her Party.
Currents like the PTS of Argentina affirmed that Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez were the expression of the struggle of the American working class and its youth and that "they were going to socialism." They dressed up and sweetened political impostors, who are the greatest enemies for the masses to advance towards the socialist revolution.
Other currents, such as the ISO, dissolved their party to go with Sanders and the Democrats. Not to mention the "anti-capitalists" who were in the front row with Sanders, also when he called to support Biden.
The American SWP today is the official Communist Party of Havana, fervent supporter of a so-called "democratic front against Trump" ... the Stalinist old policy of World War II and Yalta of supporting "democratic imperialisms" against the fascists. And it was the "democratic allies" of Stalinism who ate the USSR.
From Brazil, the PSOL traveled to propose Sanders to make a "Socialist International" from the US and all the Americas. But Sanders ignored them and he went to the Democratic Party Convention.
When the crime has already been committed and the working class has already been taken off the streets by the Biden and Sanders' scam, and subsequently led to the electoral trap ... the PSOL proclaims only now, knowing that Biden is going to apply a fierce attack on the labor movement and the oppressed peoples of the world, a “third party”, which they propose to be headed by the “socialists” of the Democratic Party. They are true political swindlers and left-wing appendages of the US regime. They are the heirs of the old policy of Stalinism of "democratic front" against fascism.
When a huge crisis breaks out in the US, these people call to save the regime from imperialist rule with a party to the left of the Democratic Party; a despicable Kautskyist policy to set up a servile left, always ready to save imperialist "democracy" from the hatred of the masses.
An enormous political crisis in the heights is shaking US imperialism. Reformism dreams of stabilizing the political situation with a "four-party regime", when in reality the only way out for the working class is to break with the regime and the scam of the "democratic front" and resume the path of a class against class combat that shook America in 2020.
The subjugation of the working class to its executioners leads it to a dead end. That is what the crisis of leadership of the proletariat is all about, of the thousand and one deceptions of the leaderships that at every step disorganize their combat.
To crush fascism, the working class needs to create workers' militias. Biden and his murderous police that killed George Floyd in Minnesota, will not allow them. To win freedom and stop filling the streets of the United States with their own blood, the black people need to dissolve the murderous police under the command of Democrats and Republicans.
To end unemployment and win jobs for all, workers must expropriate any factory that closes, furloughs or dismisses, without compensation. To win a wage of U$S 15 an hour right now, the working class must expropriate the fascist counterrevolutionary elite that controls, at gunpoint and with massacres and genocides, the oppressed peoples of the world.
To succeed in its struggle, the American working class must join the workers in the peoples that its own imperialism oppresses and plunders through the World Bank, the IMF and that den of bandits of the UN. There are their allies: The GM workers enslaved and fired as in Mexico, Argentina, South Africa; the thousands of workers laid off from Ford in Brazil; the millions of workers in India who go out to fight for their wages; the workers who in Bangladesh put up with transnational corporations and maquilas .
Subjected to the Democratic Party, the working class is driven to absolute weakness. It cannot join forces with the millions of Chinese workers, who are super-exploited and enslaved as much as American workers, by the same transnationals and the same banks that have destroyed the lives of workers and the poor people in the United States. If hand in hand with Biden or Trump, the American working class is led to confront its class siblings on the planet and to lose all weight in their mobilizations.
To regroup their allies in the world working class, US workers must paralyze the imperialist war machine, as they did yesterday in Iraq and Vietnam. They must put an end to the US imperialists' military bases from where all the oppressed peoples of the world are controlled and all the nations oppressed by Wall Street are fought, whether associated or not with the rest of the imperialist powers.
Subjected to the imperialist Democratic Party, the working class forces are paralyzed and their hands tied to fight for its demands. That unity brings its forces to zero. As Trotsky said: “The law of the parallelogram of forces, is verified even in politics. The result is, as is known, the more divergent the forces from each other, the smaller they are. When the political allies pull in opposite directions, the results is zero (...) the alliance of the proletariat with the bourgeoisie, whose interests, currently, in fundamental questions, form an angle of 180º, cannot, in general terms, but paralyze the claiming force of the proletariat. "(Lesson of Spain, the Last Warning)
In order to achieve their slightest demands, THE WORKING CLASS SHOULD RE-UNIFY THEIR RANKS. It was the Democratic Party of oligarchs, bankers under Obama and his gang that in 2008 attacked and snatched huge conquests, and even jobs and their homes, from millions of white workers. The subjugation of the working class to the Democratic Party has led to a large section of the white working class being captured by the demagoguery of the scoundrel Trump, as it also happened with the ruined middle classes hit by the crack of 2008.
Trump has won 74 million votes in the last election. He has been voted by part of the white working class and the impoverished middle classes. With a cynical policy of class collaboration, the reformist left and the union leaderships subjected the working class to an alliance with Biden and the Democratic Party. This alliance is an alliance against broad sectors of the working class and the ruined middle classes, which constitute the material base of Trump and the proto-fascist forces that are already installed in the streets of the United States.
Only with a workers' program, which attacks the profits of the capitalists and breaks with the politicians of the bourgeoisie, can the ranks of the American working class be unified again. On that day the collapse of the counterrevolutionary forces of the Republican Party, Trump and the anti-working class oligarchs of the Democratic Party will have begun.
Neither Biden, nor Trump! Let's open the path to the socialist revolution!
The streets must be won again! The fighting committees, the assemblies, the combative unions' factory committees, the rebellious youth and black people committees must be set up! The rank and file soldiers must be called upon to enlist in every fighting committee to defend the people with their weapons and crush the white supremacists!
We must coordinate the masses' fighting organizations, setting up a powerful workers' militia, by city, county, state and coordinating it at national level!
The power of the workers, the black people, and the middle classes ruined by the parasites of the financial oligarchy, must be raised!
As in 2011, we must occupy Wall Street to expropriate the expropriators!
The fight is class against class, for the international unity of the workers!
To achieve even the smallest of their demands, the working class must expropriate the transnationals and together with the workers of imperialist Europe, take away from them the yoke of the shareholders who, from Maastricht and Wall Street, enslave entire nations and all the exploited in the world.
Imperialism and Wall Street bankers are bold, fearless and fierce counterrevolutionaries when they defend their businesses and interests. This is how the working class must fight until it expropriates even the last of the expropriators of the people and ends with that 1% of parasites that is leading civilization to barbarism.
That is the dilemma: socialism or barbarism; socialist revolution or fascism and war.
In the midst of this situation, the North American and world reformist left proclaims a new socialist or reformist labor party, after having openly supported Sanders' political imposture. These currents long to continue saving the US imperialist regime and help stabilize with "four parties."
What the American working class needs is to set up an insurrectionary Leninist party to fight for the victory of the socialist revolution. We must recover the flags of the Fourth International to put Trotsky and Cannon's SWP back on its feet, that of the insurrection and the Soviets, that one of the American and world revolution!

Fight Imperialism to Fight Fascism
Leon Trotsky, September 21st, 1938
The most important and the most difficult thing in politics, in my opinion, is to define on one hand the general laws which determine the life-and-death struggle of all countries of the modern world; on the other hand to discover the special combination of these laws for each single country. Modern humanity without exception, from British workers to Abyssinian nomads, lives under the yoke of imperialism. This must not be forgotten for a single minute. But this does not at all mean that imperialism manifests itself equally in all countries. No. Some countries are the carriers of imperialism, others – its victims. This is the main dividing line between modern nations and states. From this, and only from this viewpoint should the very pressing problem of fascism and democracy be considered.
Democracy for Mexico, for instance, signifies the desire of a semi-colonial country to escape from bonded dependence, to give land to the peasants, to lift the Indians to a higher level of culture, and so on. In other words, the democratic problems of Mexico have no progressive and revolutionary character. And what does democracy signify in Great Britain? The maintenance of what exists, that is, above all the maintenance of the rule of the metropolis over the colonies. The same is true in relation to France. The banner of democracy covers here the imperialist hegemony of the privileged minority over the oppressed majority. Fascism and Imperialism In the same manner we cannot speak of fascism “in general.” In Germany, Italy, and Japan, fascism and militarism are the weapons of a greedy, hungry, and therefore aggressive imperialism. In the Latin-American countries fascism is the expression of the most slavish dependence on foreign imperialism. We must be able to discover under the political form the economic and social content.
In certain circles of the intelligentsia at present the idea of the “unification of all democratic states” against fascism enjoys popularity. I consider this idea fantastic, chimerical, capable only of deceiving the masses, especially of the weak and oppressed peoples. Really, can one believe for even a single moment that Chamberlain, Daladier, or Roosevelt are capable of carrying on a war for the sake of the abstract principle of “democracy”? Had the British government loved democracy so, it would have given freedom to India. The same is true of France. Great Britain prefers the dictatorship of Franco in Spain to the political rule of the workers and peasants, because Franco would be a much more pliant and reliable agent of British imperialism. England and France have given Austria to Hitler without resistance although war would be inevitable if he so much as dared touch their colonies.
The conclusion is that it is impossible to fight against fascism without fighting imperialism. The colonial and semi-colonial countries must fight first of all against that imperialist country which directly oppresses them, irrespective of whether it bears the mask of fascism or democracy.
In the countries of Latin America the best and surest method of struggle against fascism is the agrarian revolution. Because Mexico had made important steps on this road the uprising of General Cedillo was left suspended in air. On the contrary, the cruel defeats of the republicans in Spain are due to the fact that the Azana government in alliance with Stalin suppressed the agrarian revolution and the independent movement of the workers. A conservative and even more a reactionary social policy in weak and semi-colonial countries means in the full sense of the word betrayal of national independence.
You will ask me how it can be explained that the Soviet government which issued from the October Revolution suppresses the revolutionary movement in Spain? The answer is simple: a new privileged bureaucratic caste, very conservative, greedy, and tyrannical has succeeded in raising itself over the Soviets. This bureaucracy does not trust the masses but fears them. It seeks rapprochement with the ruling classes, especially with “democratic” imperialists. To prove his reliability, Stalin is ready to play the role of Gendarme throughout the entire world. The Stalinist bureaucracy and its agency the Comintern, now represent the greatest danger to the independence and progress of weak and colonial peoples.
I know Cuba too little to permit myself an independent judgment on your fatherland. You can judge better than I which of the above expressed opinions is applicable to the situation in Cuba. So far as I personally am concerned I hope that I shall be able to visit the Pearl of the Antillian islands and become more closely acquainted with your people to whom through your newspaper I send my warmest and sincerest greetings. |
