The decline of Chavezism
15 years ago, Fidel Castro and the World Social Forum showed the Chavezist colonels as “socialists” and “antiimperialists”. They taught the working class to trust Chavez, the “nationalistic” bourgeoisie and the colonels that massacred in Caracazo, i.e. the class enemy. Furthermore, currents that today criticize Maduro, such as PSL (UIT) or LIT, are the same ones that yesterday supported critically Chavez and said that he wasn’t to be confronted as he was “progressive”.
Truth is that the Bolivarian officers didn’t come to fight imperialism but to strangle the anti-imperialist struggle of Caracazo. Each struggle of the Venezuelan proletariat since 1989 threatened to split the army, leave it in crisis and win over the rank and file soldiers. Chavez came to abort that nightmare of revolution and armed dual power, a link of the Latin American revolution chain that drove Bush and US imperialism mad.
Thanks to a “socialist” disguise provided by Castroism and WSF, Chavezism managed to control the anti-imperialist masses throughout a strong state control and partial concessions which were possible because of an exceptional oil income. The Bolivarian bonapartism of Chavez and the “nationalist” colonels expressed a bourgeois faction linked to the State and the business deals of oil, which imposed the control of the proletariat by a brutal state-ization of the unions and the workers organizations. This was the base of the relative autonomy of the Bolivarian bourgeois nationalism in its bargain with US imperialism for a bigger share of the oil income.
As it increasingly subjected the proletariat, the native bourgeoisie stop being useful for imperialism. When Castro-Chavez WSF finally strangled the Latin American revolution, Chavez was subjected to imperialism in a pact with Obama and lost every feature of bourgeois nationalism. With this pact, Chavez became a direct agent of imperialism. He embraced with Uribe over the blood of the Colombian resistance. He applauded the beginning of the capitalist restoration in Cuba and attacked the Venezuelan proletariat each time more brutally.
The renegades of Trotskyism have been the left leg of this scam. PSL (UIT) called to get 10 million votes for Chavez in 2006. Alan Woods, a true councilor of Chavez, gave him The Transitional Program of the Fourth International for him to take it. In 2010, in the meeting of the worker trade union federations in opposition to CUT in Brazil, LIT called to vote against the proposal of the industrial workers of La Paz (Bolivia) which called for an international struggle against the Bolivarian governments.
Madurois the government of a rotting Chavezism, old bourgeois nationalism that became a servant of imperialism, which starves and savagely repress the people because they lost control of the masses. The true cause of the brutal bonapartization of the regime of the last years is that proletariat has broken away from Chavezism.
This is the essence of the historical cycle of Chavezist bourgeois nationalism. We are at the end of it. After the proletariat was put down to its knees by Chavezism, then imperialism and the oligarchy raised their heads and come for the full control of Venezuela.
